What College Education Means to Me

Good morning, everyone. The title of my speech is “What college education means to me”.

For me, college education is a marvelous ship-builder. With great vision, college education has equipped me, first with a powerful propeller--the knowledge in certain field and wide exposure to other disciplines. By devoting myself to my courses in the day and immersing myself in the world literature at night, I’ve amassed the driving force for the future and eiched my soul.

Besides, college education has also provided me with a precise compass--the sense of social responsibility. How can I best serve the public while achieving my self-fulfillmentMy one year’s experience as an English tutor has proved: to be valuable to society as well as to find my place, I have to possess some actual strength and the ability to function well in the most challenging situation. Amid the hectic schedule that balances club activities, sports, and academic courses, I feel the rhythm and beauty in my life, knowing that I ’m on the right way.

And more importantly, college education has set up not only single ships, but also fleets with common destinations. By interacting with friends of common beliefs, I’ve acquired skills of relating to other people.

Now,as a ship about to make my maiden voyage,I’m still not in the position to tell what’s waiting ahead of me,but with a powerful propeller, a precise compass and ardent companions of sailing in the sea of society, I’m ready to be a great sea-explorer. Thank you.

大家早上好。今天我演讲的题目是“大学教育对我的意义”。

对我来说，大学教育犹如一位技艺精湛的造船师。首先，具有远见卓识的大学教育为我装配了一只马力强劲的推进器；专业知识及广博的课外知识给我带来无限动力。白天我全神贯注地研习自己的课程，晚上则尽情享受世界文学，在此过程中，我既为未来积聚了力量，又充实了自己的灵魂。

此外，大学教育还为我提供了一个精确的罗盘，即社会责任感。“如何才能在实现自我价值的同时最大限度地服务于社会？”我一年的英语家教的经历证明：只有拥有过硬的实力和对高挑战性局面应付自如的能力，我才能成为一个对社会有价值的人，一个找到自己位置的人。在协调着社团活动、体育运动和专业课程的忙碌日程中，我感受到了生活的韵律与美丽。

更为重要的是，大学教育不仅仅制造了一只只单个的船只，他还组建了一支支驶向同一目的地的大舰队。在与志趣相投的.朋友们的相处、融合中，我锻炼了与人交往的能力。

现在我即将作为一只巨轮开始我的首航，尽管前方的情况还无法预料，我却有充足的信心作一名出色的海洋探索者，因为我有强劲的推进器、精确的罗盘，还有一帮与我同行、一起驶向社会之洋的热心朋友！

My name is Xie Tianyuan. I am 17 years old. My birthday is Jan. 1st . It’s just New Year’s Day. I e from Class 13，Grade 2 of Junan No. 1 Senior High School.

I am a cheerful teenager，so my hobbies is extensive. In my spare time I like playing table tennis and soccer.After school，I like to surf the Internet or listen to music. I also will put into the reading to enrich my knowledge，in order to understand the world. I like reading and I often borrow books from the school library. I enjoy reading books because the books can make me happy and sunny every day.

Then I will say sth. about my family. There are three people in my family，my mother，father and me. My father is a strict but kind man. He always puts his own heart on his business. My mother is a teacher. She does pretty well. No matter what they do，or how busy they are，they always give me their deep love. I love them，too.

As long as you work hard，there will be a harvest. This is my motto. I’ll follow this path and study hard.

As the 90’s generation kids became older and started to step into the college , we became to know the world better . we still remember the time in high school ,our high school teacher told us that we just need to insist on study for less than 1 year then we could have a life like heaven in the college ! thus ,all of us just studied day and night .in spite of all the problems ,just looking forward the happy time of college .

And now ,I am in college ,I am already in the place that I dreamt of over one thousand times in the past . I just found all the beautiful stories created by our high school teacher was not real .but I have to admit we did have quite a lot of spare time now , however what comes along it was the responsibilities which coming from the study ,the family ,the future ,even the society .everyday I live with these things ,I do these things daily, though there is nobody forcing me to study or to stop playing computer games anymore like my mom ,because I know it is my heart that encourage me to insist on doing these .

depending on my personal experience and emotional preference, i find that self-study is an extremely important skill for those who want to learn new things.the reasons are as following.

first, self-study is an effective way to broaden our horizon and extend our knowledge.we can arrange our time and adjust our process flexibly according to our own concrete situation. for example, as college students, we can use some of our leisure time everyday to learn other subjects by self-study in addition to our major knowledge. at the same time, we also can extend our major knowledge by self-study of other subjects.

second, self-study is a process to develop our ability of thinking and management. self-study is a process that we gain knowledge or skills by our personal effort without others’ instruments. therefore, in this process, we need to make choices by ourselves, arrange and control time and process by ourselves, think about all kinds of questions by ourselves and find out the solution about different problems by ourselves. in brief, self-study is all about us basically.

finally, self-study is a method to keep learning. as the saying goes, “it is never too old to learn.” and our school life will come to an end some day and only through self-study can we keep ourselves learning all the time. thus, all of us need to form the habit of self-study so that we can make a progress everyday.

in a word, self-study is essential and necessary. keep studying something new everyday and you will find yourself improving a lot some day.
